Mhondoro, A Shona name meaning "spirit of a lion", is based in Champaign, IL. They formed in January 2007, playing popular music from Zimbabwe ,by artists such as Thomas Mapfumo, Oliver Mtukudzi, the Bhundu Boys, and others as a tribute to the range of vibrant music Zimbabweans have to offer. Mhondoro co-founder Clifford Jakopo is a highly accomplished artist hailing from Rugare, Zimbabwe. Clifford also founded Idwalla, one of Zimbabwe's leading traditional drum and dance troupes, and has appeared in African feature films with artists such as Oliver Mutukudzi, as well as Disney's "A Far Off Place" with Reese Witherspoon. In August 2008, Mhondoro joined forces with Guinean master drummer Bolokada Conde, former lead soloist for Guinea's world famous drum ensembe Percussions de Guinea, and has added popular music from Guinea, including orginal creations by Bolokada, to their show. Mhondoro delivers solid and convincing performances of infectious and highly danceable African pop music, featuring virtuosic drumming and dancing by two African master artists.

Zmick is a progressive/live improvisational band that was born in the heart of Urbana, Illinois. Their music encompasses elements of jazz, progressive rock, reggae, electronica, funk, metal, Latin and world music. When asked what they sound like, the members describe their music as "Sexy prog rock with a jazz mentality". Zmick writes music with the intent of bringing people together and giving them an opportunity to dance, sing, laugh and bond with other music lovers. It's about building a community where live music appreciators can come together and have a good time.
