The Fourth Annual Tournées French Film Festival is presented by the University of Illinois and Parkland College. It is returning to Boardman’s Art Theatre in Champaign, Illinois, where nearly 2,500 viewers annually have had the opportunity to discover new French and Francophone films during this week-long event. Organized jointly by faculty and students from Champaign-Urbana’s two post-secondary institutions, the festival is open to the general public. As in previous years, faculty specialists will introduce films at select screenings throughout the week, while the Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities will host a panel discussion entitled "Her Name is Sabine: Documentary Film Making and the Ethics of Institutions."
As a special event for 2008, the festival includes two weekend matinee double-features of the beloved children’s classics by Albert Lamorisse, The Red Balloon and White Mane. While Inside Paris tells a “very French” tale, in the tradition of the New Wave, the rest of our features have international connections: the steamy adaptation of the 19th century novel The Last Mistress and the charming Blame it on Fidel! feature Spanish and Latin American characters, while Daratt is a stunningly taut narrative about the aftereffects of civil war in Chad.
