Eric Payne, Life Science Technology Manager

Mr. Payne brings an extensive background of biotechnology and intellectual property expertise to the OTM. As a research fellow with the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention in Atlanta, Eric helped develop analytical methods for the detection of biological and chemical warfare agents. In addition, he has held several research positions in areas including molecular virology and plant genomics.

Before joining the OTM at the University of Illinois, Eric served as an Intellectual Property Analyst at Purdue University where he specialized in developing intellectual property protection strategies for early stage biotechnology and medical science inventions.

Mr. Payne is licensed to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office as a Patent Agent and holds dual degrees in Molecular Genetics and Microbiology from Purdue University. Eric is responsible for technologies in the following areas: pharmaceuticals & biotechnology, chemicals & bioenergy, nutritional sciences and agriculture.
