In November the Concert Artists Guild International Competition brings us its 2005 winner, the Parker String Quartet. The New York Times calls this group “something extraordinary,” and the Washington Post declares it “a quartet that deserves close attention.” Three months after its CAG win, the Parker Quartet took First Prize at the Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition, enhancing its international reputation. And to mix things up a bit, last year it became the first string quartet in residence at Barbès, a bar and performance space in Brooklyn’s South Slope! For its Sunday Salon, the Parker will offer Schubert’s Quartet in A Minor, “Rosamunde”; Janacek’s Quartet No. 1, inspired by Tolstoy’s “The Kreutzer Sonata”; and Dvorák’s Quartet in E-flat Major.
