With suave elegance and technically flawless execution, the Guarneri String Quartet has graced venues worldwide for 45 years, with only one personnel change during that span. When the foursome visited Champaign-Urbana last year, their luggage did not arrive with them; they took the stage in their traveling clothes and transported the audience in an intimate evening of exquisite musicianship.

Now embarking on their momentous farewell tour, the members of Guarneri return to the Great Hall for a historic evening. The program opens with quartets by Bartók (number 3) and Mozart (number 15) and culminates in Dvorák’s melodious “American” Quartet (number 12). This gem will sparkle in the hands of these virtuosos, whose performances are suffused with deep intent, sophistication, and, on this night, the poignancy of a final performance.
