Zmick is a progressive/live improvisational band that was born in the heart of Urbana Illinois. Their music encompasses elements of jazz, progressive rock, reggae, electronica, funk, metal, latin and world music. Their philosophy in writing evolves around the idea that "the more diverse types of music we listen to, the more different colors of paint we have on our pallet to create our own pictures with". While trying to maintain a broad appeal, Zmick writes music with the intent of bringing people together and giving them an opportunity to dance, sing, laugh and bond with other music lovers. "It's all about building a community where live music appreciators can come together and have a good time listening to live music. If we can bring people together through song and dance, we feel we've played a good show. We also try our best to make each show different by changing our setlists every show, and playing cover songs that people love from multiple genres/eras." Some of the artists they've covered include Nelly, Eminem, CCR, The Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, Django Reindhardt, The Beatles, Cake, Beck, Radiohead, Bob Marley, Railroad Earth, along with playing traditional bluegrass and Judaic music.
