Amara Yoga & Arts announces new photo work in the gallery by Andrei Medvedev. Andrei 
was 
born
 in 
1959
 into 
a 
painter's
 family,
and
 has 
been
 involved
 with
 the
 arts
 since
childhood.
He
graduated 
with 
honors 
from 
Leningrad
 School 
of 
Industrial
 Design
 (Saint
 Petersburg, Russia) in
 1983.
 His 
paintings 
and
 other 
works 
have 
been 
widely 
shown 
in
 European 
Museums 
of
Art,
 and galleries 
in 
France,
 Germany
, and 
Switzerland.
 Shooting
 film
 with
 a 
35mm
 Leica
 camera, 
his
work
 creates 
a
 timeless 
beauty, 
utilizing
 the
 nearly 
forgotten
 printing
 techniques
 of
 bromoil 
and
 gum
 bichromate 
prints. 
Since 
1993
 he
 has 
been 
the
 Professor 
of 
Drawing,
 and
 Head
of 
the 
Department
 of
 Education 
at 
The
 New 
Academy 
of
 Fine
 Arts, 
Saint
 Petersburg,
 Russia.


Gum 
Bichromate
 Prints 
are
 multi‐layered
 images
 on
 heavy
weight 
watercolor 
paper 
based
 with 
gum
 arabic 
and 
light
 sensitive 
bichromate. 
Each
 layer 
of 
pigments 
is
 individual
ly coated, colored, registered, exposed, and washed. Photographic negatives of the the same size as a final image are used for exposing a print by contact method. John Pouncy, a French chemist, had developed this technique in 1858.

Infra Red Prints - made from enlargedd 35mm negatives of the Infra Red films, exposed on silver coated paper and manually developed. The process was discovered in 1910 by Robert W. Wood, an American Physicist.

Local artist Lyosha will be discussing these various techniques at the opening reception on February 19, 7-9pm. Live music will be by local singer and songwriter Leisel Booth.
