Some people go to church on Sundays. Some kick back with a beer and watch sports. And some dress in drag and strut their stuff to Rihanna’s S&M on the C-Street stage.
If you have never been to a drag show before, Chester Street Dance Club (known by many as C-Street) in downtown Champaign gives you a chance every week to check it off your bucket list. The dancing divas differ from week to week, but a good time is guaranteed. The dance numbers range from throwback Celine Dion songs to Top 10 hits, and the show even included a comedy routine.
A great part of the show is how interactive it is. One performer acted as emcee for the night and tossed zingers out at the audience left and right. The dancers really embrace the crowd as well and throughout the show tried to get audience members out on the dance floor. Shy attendees beware!
Drag queens come from as far away asSouthern Missouri to grace Champaign with a good time, and people from all walks of life come to enjoy it. Members of the audience included families and rowdy groups of students alike. After the dancers finished their performances, the stage and dance floor opened up and the bar was transformed into a dance party. The actual drag show takes place from approximately11:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., but varies week-to-week based on performers. If you go with a fun group, drag night at C-Street definitely doesn’t disappoint.
