What do college students, stay-at-home moms, and those working the 9-5 grind have in common? A lot of stress and very little free time.
Lucky for stressed-out CU residents from all walks of life, Amara Yoga & Arts offers a free Community Yoga class every Saturday afternoon at 2:30. The class welcomes participants of all ages and levels of yoga experience to spend an hour decompressing and sharing their energies.
Upon entering the Amara Yoga studio participants are greeted by friendly employees, offered a glass of tea and water, and given a yoga mat and other supplies after being shown around the studio. The Community Yoga classes alternate styles based on who is instructing, and the class I participated in was Restorative yoga, taught by Jim Rector.
Amara explains that Restorative yoga emphasizes yoga’s meditative qualities and “leaves us feeling nourished, cared for and well-rested.” The class consisted of soothing music and restful poses held for moments at a time. The class strives to be a positive experience and leave participants feelings relaxed and energized.
The free Community Yoga classes will continue at least into September Rector said, and after that, too, if attendance stays high.
Amara Yoga & the Arts is located to the right of the main Lincoln Square Mall entrance on the Vine Street side. You can sign up online in advance or arrive before the beginning of class to sign up.
