Yonder Mountain String Band is far from your average bluegrass ensemble. Progressively fusing bluegrass with numerous genres, such as jazz, folk, and most notably, rock ‘n’ roll, the band has created a unique sound that can never be classified under one type of music. It is, however, known for its extended songs and sets, which has allotted it the unofficial title as a “jamgrass” (jam band & bluegrass) band.
The genre-defying, Colorado-based foursome will be coming to Urbana’s very own Canopy Club on March 4 as part of their Cabin Fever Tour.
The group just began their tour on Feb. 8 after the success of their sold out New Year’s shows in Colorado, bringing their music all the way from the steaming South to the Wild West. Lucky for us, the band chose Urbana as their second to last stop in between Madison, WI and Live Oak, FL.
If you’re looking to test the band out before committing to the show, you can download live performances for free on their website, www.yondermountainlive.com. But there is no need to even question whether or not this show is for you because Yonder can appeal to any mood. Whether you want to sit and relax or jump and dance, their tracks exhibit a wide spectrum of emotion that will cater to anyone’s needs.
The show is in less than a month, so start saving now. Remember that you can pay $20 in advance as opposed to the $25 you will have to pay at the door. Speaking of doors, they open at 8 p.m., an hour before the show actually starts. So check them out and experience the phenomenon that is Yonder Mountain String Band.
