Wilco is an American rock band that was started in 1994 in Chicago, Illinois. The band has had a variable lineup over the years, singer/songwriter Jeff Tweedy and bassist John Stirratt being the only original members of the band remaining thoughout all of the various membership changes. The roots of the band are alternative country, which can be plainly seen in their debut album A.M. released in 1995, but throughout the years they have evolved in their style of music to take on more experimental approaches. On their next three releases Wilco was met with varying degrees of success from record sales as well as crtically, until their fourth release, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot was released in 2002 to much critical acclaim, selling over 590,000 copies, and generally being Wilco's most successful album to date. The release of their fifth album, 2004's A Ghost Is Born, won two Grammy Awards including Best Alternative Music Album. Their most recent release, Sky Blue Sky from 2006, was markedly less experimental than their previous efforts, though still commercially successful, reaching top five in the U.S. charts and selling 87,000 copies in its first week.
