The Verve is a British rock band formed nearly two decades ago in 1990 by lead vocalist Richard Ashcroft. The band members all met at Winstanley Sixth Form College and started playing music together. During the early years of their career, their music could be categorized as shoegaze rock and more psychedelic than their later work, which is more straightforward Britpop. They burst onto the scene with the release of their third album, “Urban Hymns”, which was huge commercial breakthrough and contained the smash hit “Bittersweet Symphony”. The band broke up soon thereafter, but reformed in 2007 to release their fourth album, appropriately titled “Forth”, in 2008.
