Often hailed as one of the most important alternative bands of the late 80s and early 90s, The Pixies have left their mark on many genres of music today. Led by dynamic frontman Frank Black(originally known as Black Francis), The Pixies original brand of abrasive alternative rock gave birth to Kurt Cobain's Nirvana and the grunge rock scene of the 90s. Although they only released four albums in their eight years together, those four albums left a lasting impact on more than one generation of music lover. Tensions between Frank Black and bassist/vocalist Kim Deal led to the demise of The Pixies in 1993. In 2004, the Pixies reunited for a tour and continue to tour sporadically.
