The Mars Volta is Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, former member of At the Drive-In, who formed the band after At the Drive-In broke up. Originally De Facto, the band specialized in dub, before the duo began to experiment in ambient textures and rapid fire riffs, eventually growing comfortable enough with their own technical talents to pursue progressive rock. Tremulant EP was released in 2001, and since then the band has released three albums and Rodriguez-Lopez has pursued a solo career, although many of the songs he write for his solo act have made their way to Mars Volta's live show and even their albums.
