The Magnetic Fields is led by Stephin Merritt, a New York City based singer-songwriter. The group originated as a studio project for Merritt, but eventually evolved into a four piece, touring band. The Fields have released eight albums, including The Wayward Bus and 69 Love Songs. The band is well known for its use of unorthodox instruments in their recordings. Their music has an easily distinguished sound that brings together many different combinations of musical styles. The band will release their ninth album in early 2008.
