A bunch of suburban kids from the outskirts of Sheffield, England, Arctic Monkeys aren't even old enough to have seen their main influences, The Smiths and The Clash, live. Led by Alex Turner on vocals and guitar, Arctic Monkeys are Jamie Cook on guitar, Matt Helders on drums and backing vocals and Nick O'Malley on bass. First hitting the British scene in 2005 with the release of their single on Domino Records "I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor," Arctic Monkeys have blown up the indie rock scene ever since. Debuting at #24 on the Billboard Charts, their debut release, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, was the second fastest selling indie release ever. After touring in support of their first album, Arctic Monkeys went back in to the studio to record their 2007 release, Favourite Worst Nightmare. Controversy also surrounds Arctic Monkeys because of the inordinate amount of media coverage and hype that they have received in their short 2 and a half year history. Time will tell what the indie rock world has in store for Arctic Monkeys.
