Rage Against the Machine is an American rock band who formed in 1991 in Loas Angelas, California and are best known for their fusion of hip hop, heavy metal, punk and funk with their politically charged lyrics. The band began when Tom Morello, guitarist for Rage saw Zach De La Rocha, the main lyricist and front man for Rage, at an L.A. club free style rapping and asked him to join the band. He agreed and convinced his childhood friend Tim Commerford to join as bassist and Murello drafted drummer Brad Wilk, forming the complete line-up. They signed up to Epic records and released their first album which was self titled, the album becoming massively popular and eventually reaching triple platinum status. Their second album, Evil Empire reached similar heights, reaching number one on the Billboard top 200 upon its release. Their third release, Bulls On Parade in 1999, reached double platinum status and continued their strong careers, helping them to further preach their revolutionary and anti-establishment philosophies to the masses. In 2000 the band broke up due to Zac De La Rocha's leaving and went on to form a quiet solo career, as well as the other members of the band going on to their next project, Audioslave. Both of these projects eventually ended, however, leading to the band's reunion for Coachella in 2007 and a tour that has spanned to a world wide romp which will continue into 2008. The band currently have no plans to write new material, though they still and most probably always will remain politically active.
