Phoenix is a group of four childhood friends, Thomas Mars, Deck D'Arcy, Christian Mazzalai and Laurent Brancowitz, from the affluent Paris suburb of Versailles. Coming from the same culture that has produced Air (which they backed at one point in their career) and Daft Punk, the band has a heavily electronic sound. Originally, Phoenix was an outcast group as the French radio requires a percentage of the music played to be "native" and therefore in French. As a result, the band was more successful in other parts of Europe as well as Australia before catching on in their home country.

Phoenix has released four full-length albums to date, with Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix being the latest. Crossing the Atlantic, the band has rose quickly in the U.S. playing dates on such late night outlets as Jimmy Kimmell and Saturday Night Live.
