Nick Drake was a highly influential folk songwriter from Tanworth-in-Arden, England. He released three albums from 1969 to 1972 before his untimely death in 1974. During his life, his works never sold many albums at the time of their release, but have since been the subject of much critical acclaim in the 1980s, and a resurgence in popularity ensued. It has been speculated that he never reached a mass audience in his time because he was always reluctant to perform live and his lack of communication with a large group; both of these can be traced back to his depression issues. He was beginning to record his fourth album in 1974 after a bout of depression stopped him from writing music for a period of time. Drake was starting to shows signs of beating his depression before his overdose on antidepressants on November 26, 1974. His three studio albums are all featured on Rolling Stone's Top 500 Albums of All-Time.
