The New York based band Nada Surf it the indie scene in 1996, with their widely popular single "Popular," a sarcastic track about the teenage experience. It reached #11 on the Modern Rock Billboard chat. They initially formed in 1992, and struggled to stay successful after their second album, ‘The Proximity Effect" failed to generate much interest in the US or Europe, but was eventually re-released on a different label 2 years later. In 2005, the band released "The Weight is a Gift" under the production of Death Cab for Cutie's Chris Walla.
