California-raised and Portland-based, M. Ward has released 6 records with Merge. He released his first full-length album, Duet for Guitars #2, in 1999. Four albums later, in 2009, he made Hold Time, a fourteen-track album featuring the hits "Never Had Nobody Like You" and "Rave On." In 2006, Ward recorded a duet with actress Zooey Deschanel, a collaboration which resulted in the formation of the band She & Him. The duo's album Volume One — which Ward produced — was released on Merge Records on March 18, 2008. He has also collaborated with the likes of Neko Case, Conor Oberst, Jim James, Nels Cline, and Jenny Lewis.
