M.I.A. is the stage name of British vocalist Mathangi "Maya" Arulpragasam. She is also famous for her works as a visual artist and record producer. M.I.A.'s father was a Sri Lankan Tamil activist whom she had little contact with growing up, but the circumstances have nonetheless influenced M.I.A.'s work in music and art. She often incorporates numerous world music beats into her music, which has given her a very unique sound. Some of M.I.A.'s popular singles include "Galang," "Sunshowers," and "Jimmy."
