Keane, one of today’s more successful acts, began climbing their way up the English music scene in 1998. The band is easily recognized by their piano-driven songwriting and Tom Chaplin’s unique voice. Keane’s pianist Tim Rice-Oxley went to University College London with another young, rising star – Chris Martin. Rice-Oxley was even asked to join Coldplay, an offer that he declined. Keane’s first album, Hopes and Fears, was released in 2004 and included the very successful single “Somewhere Only We Know.” 2006’s Under the Iron Sea also received a great deal of critical acclaim and further established Keane’s roots in popular music.
