Agent Mos says it best when he calls Jonah's mc style "hard to keep up with". Though Jonah is always talking a bit of politics and philosophy in his rhymes, his delivery and approach to word structure continue to change. His first release entitled "Zen in the Art of MC" is a highly political commentary on post-9/11 fanaticism, incorporating production from def jux, DJ spinnerty, and dropping some NPR samples for good measure.
His EP "Fresh Air" is a more laid-back poetic creation highlighted by the soft sounds of DJ Spinnerty. His latest release is entitled "Influence," and while it contains both politics and poetry, we find Jonah venturing into a more electronic and dub feel exemplified by producers like Diplo, Dabrye, and Thavius Beck. Here Jonah is using the rhythmic structure of words to bring out subtle changes within. As Jonah puts it "the mc becomes less a front man dominating the beat and more a participant using words as his instrument to complement the variations in the structure of the beat."
Jonah is currently developing this approach with Kristovs Agenda, a local electronic duo that explores rhythm, space, and ambient vocalization. You can find Jonah performing locally with Krukid, Cornbread, Text, Harsh and DJ Belly as a member of the BRC as well as side projects combining spoken word poetry with dance choreography and classical music.
