Canadian-born Jason Collett is a singer-songwriter affiliated with the bands Bird and Broken Social Scene. He has released four solo efforts under his own name. In 2005, Collett announced that his primary focus would be on pursuing a successful solo career and that he would be taking a hiatus from Broken Social Scene. 2005's Idols of Exile has been reviewed rather favorably by critics from numerous genres. Collett's solo efforts often have a simpler, bare bones style to them – compared to the heavily layered Broken Social Scene albums - incorporating classic songwriting influences with modern ones.
