James was an indie rock band that formed in 1981 in Manchester, England. They toured under many different names in their early years before deciding on the name James in late 1982. They released several EP's in the mid '80s to much critical acclaim before their debut full length was released in 1986. They released a total of 9 albums from 1986 to their breakup in 2001. Beginning in 1990, every one of their studio albums landed on the U.K.'s Top Ten. They have been known to break bands into the mainstream by taking them out on their U.K. tours. Coldplay, Radiohead, and Third Eye Blind are just a few of the bands to have opened for them before their own mainstream success. They reunited in 2007 for a set of tour dates and are currently recording for a new album to be released in early 2008.
