Franz Ferdinand is a Scottish rock band that formed in Glasgow in 2001. They are: guitarist and vocalist Alex Kapranos, bassist Bob Hardy, rhythm guitarist Nick McCarthy and drummer Paul Thomson. Although their first single was unsuccessful, the release of their smash hit Take Me Out put Franz Ferdinand on the map. Subsequent to the success of their album, they were awarded the 2004 Mercury Prize and two BRIT awards in the next year. The release of their sophomore effort, You Could Have It So Much Better brought even more fame as it was released as #1 on the U.K. charts. After their initial success, Franz Ferdinand's music has been used in ad campaigns, on TV shows and in movies. Lead singer Kapranos also dabbles as a music producer. A new album is expected in late 2007 or 2008.
