Ennio Morricone has scored some of the most recognizable film compositions from the 20th century and is one of the most prolific composers ever. He's scored hundreds of films over several decades, some estimates put him at as many as 500. He is a stylistic shapeshifter, but is most identified with "spaghetti Western soundtracks" which he wrote the book on. His most notable composition is the them from "The Good the Bad and the Ugly," which made number two on the U.S. charts and remains an enduring symbol of the western sound in pop-culture.
