Who is Mr. E or simply just E? That is Mark Everett the founder of Eels. He was actually a solo act before Eels under the name E. He wasn't very successful even after opening for Tori Amos. He was kicked off his record label and forced to start something new. He then met Jonathan "Butch" Norton and Tommy Walter and started Eels. They were one of the first bands to be signed under Dreamworks and released an album in 1997 called "Beautiful Freak". The album did get some success especially since some of their songs featured in movies like Scream and Shrek. After their first album Eels pulled out another 5 albums afterwards. Unfortunately "Butch" and Tommy left the band to do other projects but E still performs and makes music with an interchangeable band.
