Death Cab For Cutie is an indie rock band that was formed in Bellingham, Washington in 1997 which began as a solo project for Ben Gibbard. His first release, You Can Play These Songs With Chords, was released as a cassette and the surprising amount of success it met prompted Gibbard to assemble a full band. The group's next four albums were favourably reviewed among the independent music scene but didn't receive much mainstream attention until their 2003 release, Transatlanticism, which appeared on several tv shows and movies, including The O.C., Six Feet Under, C.S.I. Miami, Wedding Crashers, and Mean Creek. After releasing a live EP, the band left their long time label, Barsuk Records, to join Atlantic in late 2004 and release Plans, which went gold and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Album of 2005. They released Narrow Stairs in the Spring of 2008 and The Open Door EP in April of 2009.
