Longtime friends Matt Campbell and Robert Hirschfeld are the two members of the up and coming Common Loon. The two have been playing in bands together since high school and have recently begun playing under their current moniker. They describe their sound as “pre-apocalyptic dream pop of the late industrial age.” I’m not exactly sure what that means, but the end result is certainly some great music. They have just recently mastered the tracks for their first album, which will be available in the coming months. When they aren’t playing shows, they enjoy watching local artists including New Ruins, Tractor Kings, World’s First Flying Machine, and many others. If you’re heading to SXSW later this week, make sure to check them out at the Polyvinyl Records showcase. The next time they will be playing in the area is April 17th for the IMC Fest.
