Boneyard Jazz Quintet Local Artist

In 1990, slide trombonist Morgan Powell and valve trombonist Mike Gabriel formed Boneyard, named after the Boneyard Creek, which flows through Champaign and Urbana. Little did the two of them know that they would start one of CU's best jazz bands. During the 1990's, there was a period when the group disbanded, but the band began playing again in 2002. Playing throughout several of the various CU venues, Morgan Powell, Jeff Magby, Woody Woodward, Tom Wirtel, and Armand Beaudoin currently make up the Boneyard Jazz Quintet. If you are lucky enough to catch them, the group enjoys performing songs from various legends such as Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, Miles Davis, and Dizzy Galespie.
