Blondie was by many accounts the most popular and successful band to come out of the new wave and punk rock scene of the 70s and 80s. Between 1976 and 1982 the band released six albums, incorporating elements disco, pop, and reggae while still maintaining the basic new wave sound, achieving huge international success and fame. It was the fame, however, that led to the groups 1982 disbanding after the lead singer, Deborah Harry achieved celebrity status, this causing massive tension within the group. In the decade following their disbanding they gained more and more popularity, resulting in their reformation in 1997 and the release of two more albums.
