Bloc Party are an indie rock band from Britain who initially had several different names before settling on Bloc Party in 2003, when they released their first single, "She's Hearing Voices," on the record label Trash Aesthetics. From the buzz generated off of that single, along with their follow up "Banquet" they managed to sign with label Wichita Recordings in 2004 and released their first album, Silent Alarm, in 2005. When it was released, Silent Alarm was hailed by critics, landed at the #3 spot on UK charts, named the 2005 album of the year by magazine NME, and would eventually go platinum in the UK. Their most recent album, A Weekend In The City, was released in early 2007 and has enjoyed similar popularity, taking the second spot in the UK charts and the 12th in the US upon its release. Some of their influences include The Cure, Sonic Youth, Joy Division, and Gang Of Four.
