The wildly successful Beck came from surprisingly humble beginnings. The solo artist lived in poverty and performed his music on the streets before being discovered in 1993. He signed to Geffen Records and released Mellow Gold. The hit single "Loser" brought Beck immediate success. His sophomore release, "Odelay," secured Beck's position as one of the most innovative songwriters of the ’90s. His music is described as alternative and indie and is known for being musically and lyrically experimental. Often he plays all of the instruments in his recordings. Beck is the stage name for Bek David Campbell.
