Started as a jazz-fusion band called Mind Power, Bad Brains has come to be known as the epitome of the punk rock sound. Formed in Washington, D.C. in 1979, the group has split and reformed more than once with the most recognized line-up including singer H.R, bassist Darryl Jenifer, drummer Earl Hudson and guitarist Dr. Know. Since their inception, the group has fused the punk rock ideals with the Rastafarian culture, releasing their best-known work, "I Against I" in 1986. The record included a number of songs that jumped quickly from slower reggae based grooves to the hard, fast, quick ideals of punk rock. Over the course of their break-ups and make-ups, the group has released 9 full lengths included their most recent, "Build A Nation," in June of 2007. Bad Brains are currently touring under different solo endeavors.
