Ani DiFranco is a folk singer/songwriter from Buffalo, New York. She is one of the most well-known artists in the women's rights and feminists movements. She is known for her DIY attitude towards releasing her music. She has released over a dozen full length albums on her own label, Righteous Babe Records and has never accepted any of the many offers for record contracts by major labels. Ani's popularity came mainly through word-of-mouth and a touring schedule of over 200 shows a year. Her hard work in her early years paid off, as some of her albums have even debuted in the Billboard Top 100 despite being self-released. She recently released her first retrospective, "Canon" in 2007.
