California-born, but Michigan-raised, Andrew WK (Wilkes-Krier) began recording his own material at age 17. After graduating high school a year early, he moved to New York City to pursue his musical endeavors. After holding a series of odd jobs, and promising to play "any show, anywhere", Andrew WK set out on his own without a band to promote his music. He soon found himself playing concerts in places like basements, coffee shops, and eventually larger venues. Island Def Jam Records/Universal Music finally signed him, and Andrew WK began recording his full length CD, I GET WET. Released in 2001, the album catapulted Andrew WK into overnight exposure in the international music world.
