Truly Madly Deeply (1990)

Feb. 14, 2008 - by Syd Slobodnik – Buzz writer

Truly Madly Deeply is one of the sweetest and saddest romantic films of recent times. This little-known British fantasy/drama by Oscar winner Anthony Minghella will certainly warm even the iciest of hearts this Valentine’s Day. Six years before his much-praised The English Patient, Minghella wrote and directed mostly unknown stars Juliet Stevenson and Alan Rickman in the tale about what happens to a woman when the man she loves dies, returns to her as a ghost and subsequently helps her on the path to healing.

Known by some critics as the art house, “smart person’s Ghost,” Truly Madly Deeply surpasses most of the cheaply sentimental qualities of that more popular Hollywood film released in the same year. With exceptional lead performances and odd comical touches, this film will help you value the ones you love. Not just a chick flick, this film may take a full box of Kleenex to get through.
