The 156th Champaign County Fair has been in full swing for almost a week now, but there’s still plenty more to watch out for. Here are the top five events you should check out before the fair ends Saturday, July26.
1. The Demolition Derby Championship Invitational, 7 p.m. Friday, July 25
Seriously, is there anything better than watching cars ram into each other, radiators overheating and mud flying everywhere? The answer would have to be no. Though the Derby starts at 7 p.m., get there early for good seats. If the show is half as entertaining as the derby last weekend, it’s sure to please. Friday is also Green Party Day.
2. The World Championship Rodeo, 7 p.m. Thursday, July 24
If there is one thing that could compete with car demolition it’s a good ol’ rodeo. Come watch some of the best in the world barrel race and get thrown off their steed.
3. Youth Day, all day Saturday, July 26
Perfect for the ride enthusiast, pay just $18 for unlimited carnival rides from noon to 6 p.m. Answer the age old question of how many rides on the tilt-a-whirl it takes to make someone throw up.
4. The Tractor and Truck Pull, 11 a.m., Saturday, July 26
Come watch tractors and trucks alike race at the speed of, well, a brisk walk as they haul heavy sleds around a track. The event promises to be loud and muddy, so come prepared.
5. Tractor Pull and Illinois Championship Semi-Truck Pull, 5 p.m. Saturday, July 26
Two tractor pulls in one day? We here in the CU will have to count our blessings. Come watch the even louder and even dirtier championship semi-truck pull and close down the fair in style.
