College is expensive and I would venture to say that most everybody agrees with that. If you’re like me and like to pinch pennies when you can, check out this week’s top five under $5.
5. Bar Giuliani’s Gelato. Walk into this little Italian café located at 608 E. Green St. to mix and match your favorite gelato flavors in three yummy sizes. Get a 4 oz. for $2.75, a 6 oz. for $3.50 or a whopping 8 oz. for $4.00
4. You can’t deny Espresso Royale’s mega Wednesday deal — $2 for any size latte. When you need the extra pick-me-up in the middle of the week, go in for three whole shots of espresso for a total of just $2.16 with tax at all Espresso Royale locations.
3. Zorba’s Groovy Tuesday is actually totally groovy, man. You can get a medium beef or lamb gyro topped with any veggie combo, an order of fries and a drink for just $4.98 (excluding tax). Or skip the drink and have complimentary water, which will keep the total including tax under $5.
2. Although it’s a bit off campus, go to the Blind Pig at 120 N. Walnut St. in downtown Champaign and try the Seadog Blueberry Ale. It tastes just like a blueberry muffin and that’s no exaggeration. Cost: $3.50. You must try it.
1. OK — now I know you might think I’m fibbing on this one, but it’s the truth. Drew’s Pizzeria, 611 E. Green, sells a 14-inch one-topping pizza for $5! The catch — you have to pay with a five-dollar-bill otherwise it’s $6. This is take-out only, but it is totally worth it!
