Setting the academic mood

After three long months of summer solitude, many students re-enter the collegiate arena physically and mentally unprepared. So, as you spend ungodly amounts of money on books and the “Add/Drop Class” button becomes burned into your retina, here are some must-watch back to school films that will help remind you why you’re here:
5. Accepted (2006) — Though the concept of starting your own college is a bit unbelievable, the message of self-exploration and finding one’s passion is relieving in this day of unbending degree requirements. Substitute American Pie if you want less college but the R-rating goods.
4. Back To School (1986) — Like an older, drunker version of Never Been Kissed, this thoughtful, “if I could do it all over again” film is foaming with hilarious Rodney Dangerfield one-liners. Look for a surprisingly insightful dual perspective on college.
3. Superbad (2007) — Fake IDs, running from the cops, awkward drunken romance — this squirrelly flick never disappoints. As those perverted misfits search for the perfect party we always manage to find a little bit of ourselves.
2. Old School (2003) — As Luke Wilson and company relive the best parts of college life years later, we realize what graduates really look back on and miss about their college days. Offers great party ideas.
1. Animal House (1978) — Although the film quality feels every bit of thirty years old, the sex, booze and healthy disregard for authority are truly timeless. This comedy giant is like a field guide to college hijinks — throw it on early in the year and you’re sure to have no regrets come summer.

A couple of scenes in ANIMAL HOUSE are just plain boring. Like that whole "Shout!" scene and the dumb parade at the end.
