The Sasquatch Gang

Director Tim Skousen, who was an assistant director of Napoleon Dynamite, created his own comedy film, The Sasquatch Gang, in 2006. Much like Napoleon Dynamite, this movie features some of the most awkwardly geeky characters ever seen on screen, which makes it a completely hilarious film.
When the fantasy loving, sword fighting teenage boy Gavin Gore (Jeremy Sumpter) and his gang stumble upon giant footprints in the woods, they are convinced that they have found proof that Bigfoot exists. While Gavin and his friends are spreading the word about what they have found, Gavin’s neighbor Zerk Wilder (Justin Long), and his dimwitted friend Shirts (Joey Kern), are scheming to make some money off of the discovery.
Even though it was only shown in select theaters, this film is still a great comedy. At the Slamdance Film Festival, it won an Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature. Also, at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival, Skousen won a Film Discovery Jury Award for best director, and Long won one as well for best actor. It’s no surprise that Long’s performance was excellent, considering that he has been in comedies before, such as Dodgeball. In The Sasquatch Gang, sporting a mullet and a muscle tee, it’s hard not to laugh at Long.
The film’s lack of chronology gives it originality and sets it apart from most comedies. The Sasquatch Gang should be right up the ally of Napoleon Dynamite fans. However, not being a fan of Napoleon, I was surprised that I enjoyed the movie as well.
