The Krannert Art Museum recently opened “Landscapes of Experience and Imagination: Explorations by Midwest Latina/o Artists.” The exhibit centers upon six different Latina or Latino artists. Together, their artwork forms a confluence of different responses to their environments. The environments that the artists reflect upon vary from natural settings to man-made surroundings.

The subjects that the artists capture vary significantly, but I also pleasantly found that the type of artwork differs too. Some, such as Paul Sierra in “Afternoon Landscape,” use traditional means of painting. Others follow suit with drawing and sculpture.

Some use more “high-tech” versions of art through different media installations and things done on the computer that my not-so-technologically-savvy self will never understand. The artists are from Chicago;

I could feel this through their artwork as many depict urban scenes reflecting the city itself.
