A few months ago the Digital Domain featured an article on streaming internet video and legal methods of distribution. Since then, YouTube has begun posting entire movies and TV series on their website. With free, high-definition online access to programs, audiences are usually restricted to watching on their computer screens. By connecting a laptop to a TV, squinting at the faint glow of a tiny screen no longer becomes necessary.

Connecting a computer to your TV screen is very simple in execution. Most laptops have either an S-Video or HDMI port, and all that is required is to connect the computer to the TV using the corresponding ports. Older computers and TVs will support S-Video (available for as low as $15 here) connections, while newer models of each should support an HDMI (found at $8 here) connection.

With the cables in place, right click on the desktop and select properties to access the display. Clicking the tab labeled settings pulls up the multiple monitor display. Select the second screen and clicking the box to extend the windows desktop onto another monitor.

That’s all there is to it. Drag a browser window onto the TV screen, hit play and then full-screen the video. Internet TV on your real TV.
