DJ Belly and DJ Wildcard are in the business of bringing crowds to the floor to do the "D.A.N.C.E." while making sure they don’t “1-2-3-4 fight.” Whether you’re well accustomed to artists like Justice, MGMT and Girl Talk, or simply can’t turn down a midweek dance party, make it a priority to head over to the Physical Challenge: An Indie Rock Dance Party, Wednesday at the Canopy Club. The best themed dance party for miles around, the Physical Challenge promises not only the fun, familiar beats of acts like the aforementioned, but also hopes to introduce you to new artists or musical styles you may not be familiar with yet.
If you’re ready to get “silly and sweaty,” join the “big stupid fun party,” promised by DJs Belly and Wildcard, also known as Kevin Miller and Martha Funston.
“There are plans to bring in other acts who are touring that fit in the genre, including some bands, other DJ groups and maybe the Hood Internet when they come through again,” Belly said.
Though neither of the DJs know how the new Wednesday night event got its name, they’re assuming it’s because by the end of the night you’ll be drenched in sweat from dancing your tight-neon-pant-covered butt off.
With sponsorship from locals at overuc.com and eatCU.com, the weekly dance party became a reality.
“[The sponsors] got the initial idea after the big success of both Girl Talk and the Hood Internet shows. The idea is to have a weekly night where [indie] dance music is played, because there’s not anything like that currently in town,” Belly said.
Besides the more rock-based dance music, there will also be hip-hop and loads of remixed tracks blasting through the speakers.
If you’re not in the mood to dance, but still want a break from routine, stop by the Canopy Club at 8 p.m. for one of the most confusing and addicting shows on television, Lost. Canopy Club will air the show on the big screen immediately prior to the start of the Physical Challenge. After blowing your mind with the twists and turns of the episode, it’s highly recommended that you release the perplexity and confusion into your body and lose yourself into the flowing crowd and banging beats by taking a stab at the Physical Challenge every Wednesday free of cover.
