The internet has made enormous strides in the past decade. Archive.org is a website which documents and preserves the changes over time, boasting over 85 billion archived websites. These are accessed through the “waybackmachine” on the front page of the website, where a user can enter the web address of the site they want to see.
It’s like opening an internet time capsule. In observing the differences between websites at their conception and their present iterations, it is really interesting to see how some of my favorite sites have developed. A trend easily recognizable in the web’s evolution is how the internet has drifted from a text-heavy format to a more image and symbol focused format, illustrating the birth and formation of a more user-friendly internet.
