The internet has an enormous community composed of devoted fans paying homage to their favorite artists. Searching for a song on YouTube will probably show avid fans an assortment of music video and a dozen other renditions by fans with acoustic guitars in their dimly lit basement on two megapixel digital cameras.

And while some of these may be worth watching or merit a listen, most of us browse right past them without another thought.

Casey Pugh chose to harness and organize the passion of this internet subculture by pouring their efforts into the massive Star Wars Uncut collaboration.

The premise behind this massive reimaging of the classic film is to allow fans to recreate their favorite film, 15 seconds at a time. In this way, the entire film is split into 472 scenes that are up for grabs on the project website. Clicking one shows the original scene, and signing up allows you to produce your own recreation of that scene in whatever style you desire within 30 days.

Pugh explains that once all of the scenes are completed, they will all be stitched together, and the original soundtrack will be placed on top to finalize the project. If it is successful, it will be the single largest fan recreation project to date. Pugh also mused that if the project is a success, then ‘Uncut’ versions of other famous films are definitely a possibility.

The final project’s release date is still yet to be determined, but as of today there are still 227 scenes to choose from and reproduce in that galaxy far, far away.
