Opening Friday:

I Am Legend

Will Smith stars in the new-age remake of The Omega Man that once starred legendary actor Charlton Heston. Now it’s Smith’s turn to be the only survivor of an apocalypse.

Sweeny Todd

The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street: After the last two Burton-Depp ventures, I’ve lost a lot of my excitement for the unquestionably talented dichotomy. However, this movie seems to be living up to its hype, with Tim Burton named best director of the year by the National Board of Review for his work on Sweeny Todd. I just might be excited for this film after all!

Alvin & The Chipmunks

The annoying cartoon from childhood brought to life. I refuse to see (or review) this film and I highly suggest you make the same decision.

Been There, Done That:

Atonement

Thanks to finals prep, I haven’t ventured out to a theater for the last two weeks. When I catch up on my viewing lag, Atonement will be near the top of my list of “still in theater” movies to see. Critics everywhere are praising this movie. Keira Knightly stars in Ian McEwan’s tale of young love, war and the dangers of lies.

The Golden Compass

I don’t care if it is based on a book entirely unrelated to the C.S. Lewis saga, this movie looks entirely too much like a Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe knockoff for me to waste my money. Not even James Bond himself could persuade me. I’ll just wait for Prince Caspian, thank you very much.

No Country For Old Men

Despite the so-called uncharacteristic ending, I stand behind the nation’s critics, who have overwhelmingly declared this movie fantastic. The National Board of Review also named it their best picture of the year last week.
