Albert Einstein publishes his “General Theory of Relativity”

Best paired with: Jamiroquai’s “Light Years” from Traveling Without Moving (1996)

Respect for Jamiroquai has been steadily decreasing since 1996, which is really unfortunate. Their tight, spacey rock is underwritten by some of the strongest, pulsing bass lines since the glory days of George Clinton’s P-Funk. And Einstein, a violinist in his spare time, could hardly disagree

John Lennon marries Yoko Ono in Gibraltar

Best paired with: The Beatles’ “The Ballad of John and Yoko” (1969)

Although the song was released as a single and will be forever consigned to compilations, it did reach number one in the UK that June. Chronicling the details of LenOno’s stranger-than-fiction marriage and honeymoon – ah, the “Bed-In” – the song was an easy choice to commemorate this anniversary. Almost too easy.
